BIOGRAPHY
Born in Bogota. His first musical experiences are in South America with his successful band MALANGA and with university bands in California, USA.
In 1974 he traveled to England to study music at the famous University of Cambridge.
He studies composition, orchestration, conducting and conducting an orchestra, guitar, piano, percussion and double bass.
He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1980. That same year, after graduating, he began playing the double bass on the English and American Jazz Circuit. His band MACONDO, which he founded and for which he composes, wins the prize as the best European jazz band, competing against 150 participants. With this band he performs at the Montreaux and Newport jazz festivals. Receives the composition prize in Cambridge with his string quartet VIENTOS DEL SUR.
In 1983 he joined Thomas Dolby's band as a guitarist and made his first world tour promoting the album FLAT EARTH.
In 1986 he was part of the band PRETENDERS with whom he recorded the album GET CLOSE and did concerts. As a result of the eruption of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano that destroyed Armero and left more than 25,000 dead, Chucho organizes a concert to benefit the victims. David Gilmour (PINK FLOYD), Annie Lennox (EURYTHMICS), Pete Townshend (THE WHO), Mike Oldfield and many more participate in this event. With the funds acquired, various charities were carried out in Colombia as well as a school, a sports center and a brick factory to help rebuild many lives. FONEVA was born here, a fund that he himself manages and with which he helps elderly children and animals in Colombia.
Chucho has made innumerable tours around the world with various artists and has participated in many musical works as an arranger, composer and producer.
He conducted the London Philharmonic Orchestra on Pete Townshend's IRON MAN album and recorded bass at SCOOP, WHITE CITY and DEEP END LIVE and was musical director for THE WHO's anniversary tour. 25 years of existence.
In 1987 he joined the EURYTHMICS in the recording, programming and composition of the REVENGE, WE TOO ARE ONE and PEACE albums, and played on their respective tours. He worked with Annie Lennox as a soloist on her DIVA album and later participated in the recording of the RED HOT AND BLUE album to help AIDS victims.
They also collaborated with the Eurythmics in the concert held at Wembley Stadium to pressure the South African government for the release of Nelson Mandela.
